UPDATE — Mason City Police Department issues statement regarding standoff, investigation continues

MASON CITY — The Mason City Police Department says their investigation into shots being fired in the zero block of North Ohio Avenue on Tuesday afternoon is ongoing but there is no threat currently to the public.
Police Chief Jeff Brinkley says police responded shortly before 12:50 PM to multiple calls of shots fired in that area, with officers later identifying a residence as the location where the shooting had occurred.
Officers set up a perimeter and worked to reach residents inside the house, which was unsuccessful. Brinkley says they then applied for a search warrant and called in the North Central Iowa Narcotics Task Force Special Operations Group. After the search warrant was issued, the Special Operations Group was able to safely secure the residence and make sure no one inside was injured.
Brinkley says at this time, the Police Department is currently executing the search warrant at the residence, and no other information is available about the investigation. He says one person was arrested at the scene for interference with official acts.
Anyone with information about this investigation is asked to contact the Police Department at 641-421-3636.
