Stetson Wright and Trey Benton III split Xtreme Bulls win in Spanish Fork, Utah for 2023
SPANISH FORK, Utah – The PRCA Xtreme Bulls at the Fiesta Days Rodeo in Spanish Fork, Utah, brought out the best of the best in front of a sellout crowd of more than 8,400. The top 40 bull riders in the PRCA | RAM World Standings went head-to-head with one bull apiece.
Trey Benton III got the party started in the second section of bull riders, putting together a 90-point ride on Powder River Rodeo’s Top Shelf.
“The bull I had, they have been 90 (points) on it just about every time, so I knew he was going to be a great bull,” said Benton III, a seven-time Wrangler NFR qualifier. “He (Trey Holston) was 88 right before me. So, I knew I had to follow up and do my job. I let the rest fall together after that.”
Benton III wasn’t the only cowboy to reach the 90-point threshold during Saturday night’s Xtreme Bulls. Stetson Wright continued to defy the rodeo odds. He drew Frontier Rodeo’s Frontier Coffee Brewed Money. The bull had bucked off the first 14 cowboys he had faced this season, but Wright didn’t back down from the challenge.
“Whenever I see one of my buddies go out and make a ride like that it fires me up and makes me want to do better,” said Wright, a seven-time PRCA World Champion. “What a place to be standing here with one of your buddies.”
The win comes at a key point in the ProRodeo season for Benton III, with just over two months of competition left on the calendar. He’s currently outside the Top 15 of the world standings, at No. 20.
“I had a bit of a rough start to the summer, but there’s plenty of money left out there,” Benton III said. “If a man gets on a roll in the bull riding, he can win a lot.”
For Wright, the start to a fantastic season just kept rolling. Last week he overtook his traveling partner Ky Hamilton for the top spot in the bull riding standings. He said all of his wins are special, but to do it at a place like Spanish Fork in his home state of Utah just means that much more.
“It’s awesome getting a win like this,” Wright said. “Spanish Fork always brings some of the best fans, this place lights up when there’s a really good bull ride. I’ve never had the best of luck here, but what better time to change it than right now.
